I Was in a Car Accident in Houston Texas — Now What?

One of the most common calls I get starts exactly like this:

“I was in an accident in Houston… and I honestly don't know what I'm supposed to do.”

And sometimes that's the whole conversation at first.

They don't know what questions to ask. They don't know who they're supposed to call. They don't know whether they should talk to the insurance company, see a doctor, get an attorney, or just wait.

That's one of the biggest reasons I created Accident Advocate Network.

Most people have never been through this before. Why would you automatically know what to do?

Start With Yourself

The first thing I tell people is to take care of themselves.

If you're hurt, in pain, or simply don't feel right after an accident, get yourself checked out. Some people know immediately that they're injured. Others don't start feeling pain until hours or even days later.

Then start saving everything.

Keep your police report, pictures, insurance information, medical paperwork, receipts, information about missed work, and anything else connected to the accident.

You don't need to have everything perfectly organized. Just don't throw it away.

Your Car and Your Injuries Are Two Different Issues

This is something I find myself explaining all the time.

People will tell me, “The insurance company is already taking care of it.”

Then I ask, “Are they taking care of your car, or are they also dealing with your injuries?”

That's when I usually get silence.

Your vehicle damage and your bodily injury claim are not necessarily the same thing.

If someone else caused the accident and you were injured, there may be additional damages involved depending on your situation — including medical expenses, lost income, pain and suffering, and other ways the accident has affected your life.

You Don't Have to Figure This Out by Yourself

A lot of people initially think they can handle everything themselves.

And maybe you can.

But once you're dealing with insurance calls, medical appointments, paperwork, injuries, missed work, transportation problems and everything else, it can become overwhelming very quickly.

That's where having the right personal injury attorney can make a huge difference in the process.

An attorney understands insurance claims. They know what documents matter, how claims are evaluated, how to communicate with the insurance company and how to negotiate on your behalf.

Instead of trying to become an expert in personal injury claims overnight, you can focus on recovering and following through with your medical treatment.

You Don't Even Need to Know What to Say When You Call Me

I really want people to understand this.

You don't need to call Accident Advocate Network knowing exactly what you need.

You can literally tell me:

“I was in an accident. I don't know what to do.”

We'll start there.

I'll listen to what happened, help you understand the general next steps, help you stay organized and, if you need legal guidance, I can help connect you with an independent personal injury attorney who can evaluate your situation.

That's what Accident Advocate Network is here for.

You don't have to know where to start. You just have to start the conversation.
